Mount Mitchell standing tall on a summer morning from an overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Black Mountains of western North Carolina. Mount Mitchell is located in the southern Appalachian Mountains just north of the city of Asheville, NC, and with a summit at 6,684 feet it is the highest peak in eastern North America.
