A sun dog appears in the morning sky as the sun rises over the beach in Boca Raton FL. Sun dogs are an atmospheric halo that can appear in the sky around the sun as the light passes through ice crystals in high altitude clouds, forming a ring of light that often has a faint rainbow effect. I have frequently seen this phenomenon up in the mountains and in locations with colder climates, but I was surprised to see one out on the beaches of South Florida one morning just after sunrise. I was somewhere north of Deerfield Beach on my morning walk when I came across this peaceful scene and I knew I had to get out the camera and shoot it. What a treat to find this minimalist beauty in nature with the calm ocean waves washing ashore and this somewhat rare event in the sky above. I hope you enjoy the view!
