Roan Mountain Highlands | Appalachian Trail Landscape Photography

Spring catawba rhododendron blooms and warm golden sunlight highlight the mountain ridges along the Appalachian Trail in this photo captured in the Roan Mountain Highlands area of Western NC. Located on the border of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, this southern region of the Appalachian Mountain range offers breathtaking scenic landscape views from it's alpine meadows. These grassy balds feature large natural gardens of native flowers including the deep pink catawba rhododendron blooms pictured here and bright orange flame azalea bushes that put on a glorious display during the summer season.
