Highlands NC Blue Ridge Mountains Foggy Morning Landscape

The early morning fog lifts off of the valley floor revealing layers of mountain ridges and peaks in the golden morning sunlight captured in the Southern Appalachian Mountains near Highlands NC. I shot this image just after sunrise from a scenic vantage point near Whitesides Mountain just outside the beautiful town of Highlands. I have long enjoyed visiting this area along the southern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains for the great scenic landscapes, stunning local waterfalls, excellent food and shopping, and it's cozy mountain town atmosphere.
