Appalachian Trail Photography | Roan Mountain Highlands

Fog hangs in the forest and creates an amazing environment for a spring morning hike along one of my favorite sections of the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Mountain Highlands of western NC and eastern TN. It's always a great time when we get out hiking along this section of the AT, the southern spruce-fir forest in this area is a unique environment that compels you to just slow down and enjoy the surroundings. Despite the fact that this trail eventually leads to some breathtaking scenic landscape views from the summit, I'd happily spend the whole afternoon exploring this magical forest as the trail winds its way up the side of the mountain.
