North Carolina Appalachian Trail Forest Scenic Landscape Blue Ridge Mountains

Soft sunlight breaks through heavy fog to light up this beautiful patch of forest along the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Mountain Highlands. Located right along the border of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, this section of the AT is a favorite among many hikers for it's lovely stands of the rare Southern Appalachian Spruce-fir forest, which is considered the second-most endangered ecosystem in the United States.
