Highlands North Carolina | Cullasaja River Gorge in Autumn

Autumn comes to the Cullasaja River Gorge just outside of Highlands, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. This was such a great day to be out in nature enjoying the early vibrant fall foliage colors along the river, with a tree canopy that was almost entirely dominated by bright yellow leaves hanging over the rushing waters below. I've always enjoyed this section of the Cullasaja River, where you can experience multiple large waterfalls and what seems like endless miles of small cascades as they wind their way through the large boulders that line the valley floor. There's a profound peace to be found here, a sense that you belong to this natural world, and the troubles of the outside world seem too distant to matter. Sometimes you just have to get out in nature, slow down the pace a little bit, and just breathe it all in.
