A warm and inviting scene filled with colorful fall foliage at Dry Falls, an epic waterfall and must-see attraction near Highlands, NC, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Autumn in the mountains is a special time of the year when the amazing scenic landscapes of Appalachia are rich with vibrant color and frequently experience rapid weather changes, conditions that often make for an excellent time to go hunting some waterfalls in the Southern Appalachians.

Some years are better than others when it comes to finding perfect autumn conditions at the waterfalls in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and for a landscape photographer it can be an exercise in patience waiting to find a year with both great fall foliage color and plenty of water flow. It was all working together perfectly on this particular visit to Dry Falls, one of those rare times when the resulting photograph lives up to the image you had in your mind's eye for all of those years spent chasing it.
