The amazing Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island south of Charleston SC. This ancient live oak tree is said to be one of the oldest living things in North America and some local estimates say it may be up to 1500 years old, though official estimates put it in the 400-500 year old range. No matter how old you believe this tree actually is, there is no doubting what a magnificent specimen of a Southern Live Oak tree it is. This species of tree is synonymous with the deep south, frequently seen dripping in spanish moss throughout the coastal regions of the southeastern US. The legendary Angel Oak tree pictured here is one of the oldest and largest examples of a southern live oak in the country and has been considered an iconic landmark of the Charleston, South Carolina area for generations.
